Hearing OPDL is trying to be the exclusive teams allowed to play in Ontario Cup, leaving all other Ontario clubs out. Anyone else hearing this?

Over 12'000 players/600+ teams being replaced with 1400 players/80+ teams. Also taking in account U13 OPDL is still no scores/no standings therefore not involved. Could/would OS actually try this?

Wouldn't surprise me. They clearly aren't pleased with the way the league has unfolded to date and have been trying to do anything to make it more attractive by excluding non-OPDL teams from anything they can. The Ontario Summer games is another example. Pathetic level of play when you consider how diluted all leagues in Ontario are and how many players they are excluding through their actions, all in the interest of keeping a sinking ship afloat.

A non-starting player left our team to join Vaughn OPDL, she not only starts but has been asked to play a year up for the Ontario Summer games. That alone tells me the quality of the OPDL.

Hi Everyone... First time poster, long time lurker...
Is there anything new, or any more clarity on these changes? I have a daughter that is U11 right now, and we had always planned on moving clubs to align to either an ODPL or OASL team at U12 so that she can either play-up, or at least become a fixture in the club a year ahead of ODPL age.... With all of the potential changes, it will obviously affect choices of which club/academy to look at moving forward.
Thanks!

I was just looking at the Ontario Cup tournament round results from this past weekend for the U13 and U17 age groups and noticed Niagara Regional Program enters teams. It seems to me that this is really just a group of players from various clubs that get together - is that right? Or is this a club? Just seems a little odd that they could enter a team that is comprised of players from 15 other clubs.
I would have thought it would be more reasonable to allow OPDL and OASL teams to enter.

Only familiar with the 04 age group for boys, the nrsp team plays in GHSL for my sons group and they are a real team. the opdl oasl not allowed to play is just typical BS stuff, the umbro cup some opdl and oasl teams played and did so so. the last robbie no opdl teams joined.

Whitecaps London are now a full club (started OPDL only). Full poaching of teams has now started. TD is offering sweet deals to coaches to bring teams over, if they hear no they are going right to managers and parents selling of the dream. Is this the High Standards the OPDL is about? Is this okay/approved by OS?
I guess the money needed to pay for High Standards trumps Professionalism, is this best for the players or your bottom line?

Tecumseh OPDL has their U12 2006 girls in Minnesota USA Schwann Cup 11v11. LTPD compliant? ? Wow, I guess the rest of us have to adhere to rules and what's best for development according to OS but OPDL clubs do not.

OS is quite desperate to keep OPDL from collapsing, so they allow OPDL clubs to poach any non-OPDL players they want without any fines or sanctions. Non-OPDL clubs aren't allowed to poach anyone and can be sanctioned if it's proven they did try to poach a player.
OPDL clubs are not allowed to poach players from other OPDL clubs though. One club in Ottawa gets around that rule by setting up chance encounters between their parents and the kids they are trying to poach. Sometimes they send a parent who knows the other parent, but sometimes its really creepy - I know of one situation where they sent a parent to some other kid's hockey practice to find the kid's parent and strike up a conversation about someone they both know. The conversation invariably leads to letting them know that the OPDL team is looking for players and they should switch.

I get talking to families at clubs without OPDL to come play at the higher level bs. What has no excuse is an OPDL club's TD that only has U13 OPDL teams trying to convince club teams to come over to play the same level that they already play. It is only to subsidize the high price standards, otherwise next season 4 OPDL teams will have to pay for $150'000 in salaries. Ultimately this will break up a few teams and probably zero consequences for the ones responsible. Soccer in Ontario at it's finest!

Our local OPDL team sent in a letter to OS stating that our non-OPDL club is not letting the players leave. That we are holding back players from playing OPDL. We have ask OS to play in the regional level but where told that we should let our players go so they can play in a bigger club. Even thou we beat all of the regional teams in our area. So they would rather make a non-OPDL non-regional team weaker just so they can say the big picture works. With this wisdom at the head it might be the first time FIFA will say that a host nation team does not qualify. Maybe FIFA should tell Canada Soccer to send their players to a bigger nation.

Not only is OPDL club poaching teams but have gone through the process to have OS try to Dissolve the original club they left to start their own. By dissolving the club they lose their WOYSL spots which the OPDL club is already advertising they will now have them. Threatening parents/players that they will have no where to play and must join them, lol. This is now soccer in Ontario!!!!
