New to the CFU forum? Please introduce yourself on this thread; just press "Reply".
Long time lurker? It's never too late... please introduce yourself when you are ready.
After your first post here, when you have something to say or want to share, you should probably start a NEW thread for that discussion in the relevant board; click "Create Thread" in the message board you want to post to
New members should read through the threads in the "Welcome" board, particularly the "Guidelines" and "Quick Start" threads.
The keyword is "respect". Site moderators will use the Guidelines to guide their moderation decisions; posts may be moved to a more appropriate forum, or in egregious cases of disrepsect, posts may be redacted or deleted. The goal is not to censor but to create an enjoyable experience for the community

Just signed up -
Maybe we can indentify the top 5 difficulties and possibly entertain the top 5 solutions to suit the majority... Most of the top items I'm sure have been twitterood already. Perhaps this can be dedicated to solutions for the majority and in best favour for young athletes.
I,ll start and keep in mind this is based on my own personal experience as an OSA club owner/president over the past 5 yrs.
Too me the number one issue is governance. Everything seems to circulate back to the fact the our governance fails. I have too many examples to list when in comes to local district governance and further up the chain, although typically osa directs any issues back to the districts to handle, until an official compliant or appeals is filed. It would seem that the root of the issue is conflict of interest. By this I mean local club boards that maintain district board position dominance and control through voting structures based on mass registration. Seems like a near impossible hill to climb in order for change. If you are a minnow and don't have votes how will it ever change?

Welcome fitbaws!
As a parent, I have not been exposed to that side of the soccer experience in Ontario. But drawing from my experience in the corporate life and what I have seen via clubs and academies, the issue of governance as a hindrance to raising the level of the game is not surprising.
When you have a minute, I would encourage you to start a thread under the youth development forum and share some of your experiences and what possible solutions might be.

Hi there,
I'm currently a parent of a boy in OPDL. Previously I was a parent to both rep and house league boys as well as a learn to train coach. I have also sat on a the executive of a rural club.
I know you're seeking like-minded individuals, but I thought I'd add a few points here and there from somebody who thinks that OS is heading the right direction (with many bumps along the road of course). I hope that is ok.

Good Afternoon Everyone,
I’m a parent of an OPDL girl and competitive level boy.
Kids have played both within an academy (SAAC) and club environment.
Am interested in all aspects from higher level governance to the day-to-day challenges of the parent/child in the current soccer environment.
One area of specific interest is the seemimg lack of transparency & availability of information to allow a parent to even attempt to make an informed decision.

New to the soccer world as kids have chosen soccer over hockey. One in OASL and the other in House League. OASL player decided to hold back on OPDL while he changed schools and wanted to play school soccer and do all the extracurricular sports to meet new friends and just have fun. The younger boy moved back from Rep to House League to have more fun.
Interested in keeping up to date on this sport. Lots of it around, more than hockey, even now that it is getting colder.
So thanks in advance for this forum!

Trying to figure out if this forum is dead or not. Dad of a daughter playing academy but moving to OPDL potentially through next year... trying to untwist this clusterf*uck that is ontario soccer...
