Such is the lament voiced recently on the twitterspere. Why would that be? Perhaps the most glaringly obvious reasons are the fact that Canada is the only developed nation in the world that does not have a professional soccer league and that Canada’s has a woeful ranking in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking (Mens)

Imagine that. Not having a professional level industry in the world’s most popular and arguably profitable sport. But yet we have a national federation and each province has a governing association. What is it exactly that they govern?
The FIFA rankings themselves are an embarrassment. In the past decade, Canada has hovered around 100th place in the rankings, even below countries like Curacao, Burkina Faso, Uzbekestan, Faroe Islands, and Palestine
As a soccer parent, I find myself frustrated at the lack of path or development roadmap for my son.
I fear that after u13/u14 he will have little options for competitive soccer. To the point where I have even considered driving hundreds of miles one way several times a week or even moving to another country. And I know of people who have moved to another country to give their kids a chance. I would encourage some of them to post their experience.
The constant fall and rise of leagues and clubs/academies, the lack of high performance competition, the high cost of infrastructure, lack of good development options and on and on just leaves me weary and fatigued. And so I decided to create a forum where I hope we can build a vibrant community of ideas and exchange of information that helps advance the game in the country.
